Field ExperienceThe Department of Education and Teacher Preparation believes in learning by doing. In order to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to act as high-quality educators, candidates must have the opportunity to apply research and theory in the context of authentic classroom settings. Thus, we incorporate a clinical model of practice across all initial teacher certification programs. In addition to coursework, candidates complete practicum experiences in schools across grade bands and content areas designated by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
Through immersion in the field early on in the program, candidates have the opportunity to receive frequent and formative feedback prior to completion of clinical practice (i.e., student teaching). This feedback provides opportunities for candidates to invest in their growth as professionals through engagement in reflective practice.
